Customer Case: How a Global Financial Services Firm Saved $4M a Year on Device Refresh

Global financial services firm | 25,000 employees

Most organizations replace devices on a fixed cycle, out every three years regardless of whether they're causing problems. This firm moved to a data-driven model instead: if a device was delivering a good employee experience and stayed secure and patchable, it remained in service. If the data showed employees losing time or struggling with performance, that device moved to the front of the queue.

To make that work, they built a stock of spare devices across three global locations, London, New York, and Singapore, drawing from units that were beyond warranty but still performing well.

Results: Of the roughly 8,000 devices previously replaced each year, many didn't need it. At around $1,000 per device, extending the life of even part of the fleet delivered an estimated $4M in annual savings, with security, compliance, and productivity all maintained.

Key lesson: Device age is a poor indicator of when to refresh. Employee experience, lost productivity, security, and patchability tell you far more.
